Collection intervals for bins

Waste bins at properties with property-specific waste collection must be emptied at regular intervals to prevent odours or other harm, for example, being caused to the waste collection company. The maximum intervals are as follows:

  • energy waste: the maximum collection interval is 16 weeks
  • mixed waste, if the property has a separate bin for biowaste (food waste) or if biowaste (food waste) is composted, the maximum collection interval is 16 weeks
  • mixed waste: if mixed waste contains biowaste (food waste), the maximum collection interval is 2 weeks
  • biowaste: the maximum collection interval is 2 weeks
  • biowaste: if the waste is stored in a container with a mechanical cooling system or if the container is located partly underground, the maximum collection interval is 4 weeks
  • mixed waste: if the waste contains biowaste and is stored in a container located partly underground, the maximum collection interval is 4 weeks
  • cardboard: the maximum collection interval is 26 weeks
  • metal: the maximum collection interval is 26 weeks
  • glass: the maximum collection interval is 26 weeks

If you want your mixed waste to be collected at an interval of between 2 and 12 weeks, you must submit a notification of composting of biowaste (food waste) at the property.

In areas where property owners are responsible for arranging waste collection, notification on composting is submitted to the Päijät-Häme Waste Board at lahti.fi/jatelautakunta. After submitting the notification, you must agree on extending the waste collection interval with your waste collection company. In areas where the municipality arranges waste management, a composting notification can be submitted directly to the waste collection company’s customer services team.

If you want your mixed or energy waste collected at an interval of longer than 16 weeks, you must submit an application to the Päijät-Häme Waste Board in writing at lahti.fi/jatelautakunta. The maximum collection interval permitted is 26 weeks.
